Providence Humboldt Donates $2-Million for New Behavioral Health Triage Center
Providence Humboldt County is providing a $ 2 million donation to the upcoming Behavioral Health Triage Center in Arcata.
A check presentation event will be held this Friday, February 28. The Triage Center located on land donated by the Mad River Hospital, aims to address the local mental health crisis.
The center will also provide much-needed services for individuals experiencing mental health or substance abuse crises.
The donation comes from the county through its community benefit program and is also part of a collaboration with Cal Poly Humboldt and Mad River Hospital.
"This means that there is now going to be a place where people in our community can get the care, they need at the right time in a really dignified way,” said Providence Humboldt Director of Community Health, Martha Shanahan. “This center is going to serve the needs of some very vulnerable community members, and it is going to be better for our entire community."
Although there is no official timeline on when the Triage Center will be completed, the center is expected to open sometime in either late 2026 or early 2027.
