Our Code of Conduct

Every NBLC Member and Alternate are asked to sign the agreement below.

Our Mission:

North Bay Leadership Council is the strong voice of employers who advocate for sound public policy affecting the North Bay, demonstrate and grow leadership within the region, and collectively work for a more resilient, prosperous and equitable future.

Our work will be guided and informed by our beliefs and commitments to:

Community – we want strong, resilient communities

Inclusiveness – we respect people, value diversity and are committed to equity
Collective Impact – we value and encourage collaboration, partnership, and cooperation in seeking sound public policy and will be a force for good

Civic Leadership – we support standing up for our rights and shouldering responsibilities in participating in the governmental process

Integrity – we must act with conviction and courage even in the face of adversity

Ethics:

North Bay Leadership Council’s mission can only be realized through a common code of ethics upheld by our officers, board of directors, members and staff.

We expect integrity, honesty, and trustworthiness in our work; courage in our decisions; and dedication to North Bay Leadership Council’s values and beliefs.

We expect responsible action on behalf of the organization and are accountable and transparent to our constituents and to one another. We share information when appropriate without sacrificing confidentiality.

We expect to be treated and to treat others with respect. We respect the opinions of and the differences among individuals.

We expect fairness to be evident in our actions internally and externally. We are equitable in our decisions and mindful of their impact on other groups and people.

We expect our actions to demonstrate our care for others and the community as a whole. We support each other in a humane manner. We care about the well-being of each other, the community, and North Bay Leadership Council organization.

Confidentiality:

It is the policy of North Bay Leadership Council that the Board, members, alternates, assistants and guests of North Bay Leadership Council will not disclose confidential information belonging to, or obtained through their affiliation with, North Bay Leadership Council to any person, including their relatives, friends, business and professional associates, the public or any media outlet unless North Bay Leadership Council has authorized disclosure.  The benefits of membership include the opportunity to debate policy questions openly, without concerns that internal discussions will be shared outside the organization.

Confidential information includes, but is not limited to, statements, positions, and opinions expressed in meetings by the Board, members, alternates, and assistants; statements, positions, or votes by any  member on actions taken by the Board or its committees; Board packets and agendas; current or future business plans, financial information, strategic plans, and other sensitive information related to the Board; current or future business plans, financial information, strategic plans, and other sensitive information disclosed by any  member during a board meeting related to the member organization they represent, which information is not readily available to the public.  This policy is not intended to prevent disclosure where disclosure is required by law.

Confidentiality is the preservation of privileged information. The Board, members, alternates, assistants, and guests are cautioned to demonstrate professionalism, good judgment, and care at all times in handling any information related to North Bay Leadership Council to avoid unauthorized or improper disclosures of confidential information.

While Board, members, alternates, assistants and guests are expected and encouraged to discuss the organization with one another and targeted publics, they shall not report opinions expressed in meetings, nor shall they report independently on committee action, or engage in any communication that has not been approved by the President/CEO or that would not be supported by board policy, procedures, or decisions.

It is expected that Board, members, alternates, assistants and guests , will not use member lists, polling information, or other confidential information acquired by virtue of being on the board or committee, even after they complete their service with North Bay Leadership Council.

Certification

I have read North Bay Leadership Council’s Covenant of Trust presented above. I agree to abide by the requirements of the policy and this statement and to inform the Board Chair immediately if I believe any violation (unintentional or otherwise) of the policy or this statement has occurred.  I further acknowledge and agree that violation of the rules, guidelines and standards set forth above may result in termination of my organization’s membership on North Bay Leadership Council.
