Sunny Hills Services' Annual East Bay LGBTQ Youth Pride Hayward, CA, October 17th

Our Space, an LGBTQ youth community center in Hayward that recognizes LGBTQ youth as fierce and fabulous change-agents in our community, will host “BLAST of the RAINBOWS,” the third annual East Bay LGBTQ Youth Pride celebration, on Saturday, Oct.17 from 12 p.m. – 6 p.m., in the parking lot of its building at 22245 Main Street in Hayward.

BLAST of the RAINBOWS is the only youth-specific LGBTQ Pride event in the East Bay, planned, organized and executed by a committee of youth leaders. It was founded by Our Space youth in collaboration with adult allies, whose shared goal was to create an annual Pride event that would empower, address and meet the specific needs of young marginalized people in the LGBTQ community.

BLAST of the RAINBOWS will be a fun, uplifting, and meaningful day-long event that includes multiple live performances, empowering speakers, karaoke, open mic, free food, clothes, HIV testing, and information about local resources for LGBTQ youth. BLAST of the RAINBOWS will feature an impressive line-up of Bay Area performers including young fierce poets from Youth Speaks and Pressplay Poets, the soulful political-punk queer band AfroFonix, the funky rapper Little Dinosaur, long-time drag queens Cemora Valentino-Devine and Ms Ladybug, the theatre troupe Congregation of Liberation, its founding member Jezebel Delilah X as our hostess for the day, and dozens of other artists and collaborators.

Admission is free to youth 24 years of age and younger, and $5 for adults 25 years of age and older. Adults are encouraged to bring a bag of clothing to donate to Our Space’s super-fabulous Clothing Closet.

Adult allies who would like to volunteer, and local community organizations who are interested in having a booth at the event are also encouraged to contact Bárbara da Silva at 510-566-2739 or barbara@baycyouth.org.

For interviews with youth organizers, performers or speakers, please contact Bárbara da Silva at 510-566-2739 or barbara@baycyouth.org.
