Sonoma Raceway has Plenty of Charitable Fan Activities Lined up for CSRG Charity Challenge

More than 250 historic sports cars will grace the Sonoma Raceway road course during the 12th Classic Sports Racing Group (CSRG) Charity Challenge, Oct. 3-4, and fans can get in on the fun with several charitable events slated for both on and off the track.

CSRG, which has donated more than $700,000 to the Sonoma chapter of Speedway Children’s Charities (SCC) since 2004, will continue its high-speed fundraising efforts during race weekend with charity track rides and a race-themed raffle.

Fans can enjoy a thrilling, three-lap ride around the road course in one of 30 participating race cars during the Charity Track Rides on Saturday and Sunday. Prices for the Charity Track Rides, which begin at 1 p.m. on both days, range from $75-$500, depending on the chosen car.  Sign-ups for the rides start at 9 a.m. and always sell out quickly, so arrive at the track early to reserve your spot. Pace car rides and checkered flag waving opportunities are also available.

The weekend will also feature a wine country charity raffle with fantastic prizes, including gift certificates to MacArthur Place Hotel and Spa in Sonoma, The Melting Pot fondue restaurant, Radiance Spa at The Lodge at Sonoma Renaissance Resort & Spa, and Eagle Vines Golf Club, among other prizes. Raffle tickets are: $10 each, $25 for 3 and $50 for a 'stretch.' All proceeds from the raffle go directly to SCC.

The Charity Challenge is a great family event. Children 12 years old and younger and students of all ages are admitted free with student I.D. Active and veteran military members are also admitted free. Admission covers entry to all spectator areas, as well as paddock access and parking. Guests can stroll the paddock to see the cars up close and chat with the drivers. Food options will include a Taqueria, as well as the Sears Point Grill serving burgers, sausages and more. The Raceway Café will also offer a special menu throughout the weekend. To complement the food choices, there will be a variety of local craft beer and Sonoma Valley wine.

The CSRG Charity Challenge is a celebration of historic car racing and will feature road-racing cars from Formula 1 to Formula Junior, prototype and production sports cars from marques such as Maserati, Lotus, Alfa Romeo, Jaguar, Porsche and Corvette principally from the '50s, '60s and '70s. Nine race groups will be featured in qualifying and qualifying races on Saturday and main events on Sunday. Tickets can be purchased at the gate and are $25 each day or $40 for a two-day pass.

The Sonoma chapter of SCC, the charitable arm of Sonoma Raceway, is dedicated to raising money for Sonoma County youth organizations. SCC has distributed more than $4.8 million since 2001.
