Redwood Credit Union Offers 7th Annual Free Document Shredding Event

Redwood Credit Union (RCU) is hosting a free document shredding and security event for the community, Saturday, September 7th from 9 am to 1 pm at two locations: RCU’s Administrative Offices located at 3033 Cleveland Avenue in Santa Rosa, and San Rafael High School located at 185 Mission Avenue in San Rafael. The event will include free document shredding and electronic waste recycling.

The Santa Rosa event will also feature a free educational seminar on Credit & Debit Card Fraud prevention: What to Watch Out For. The seminar begins at 10:30 am; all seminar attendees will be entered into a raffle drawing.  For questions related to the seminar, or to RSVP, contact seminars@redwoodcu.org or (707) 576-5259.

“Identity theft and fraud can happen to anyone, but there are preventative measures consumers can take to protect their personal financial information and reduce their chances of becoming victims,” said RCU President & CEO Brett Martinez. “We offer the annual Shred-a-Thon to provide the community a safe and secure means to dispose of sensitive documents and recycle electronics at no charge, and to provide an opportunity to learn how they can take further action to protect themselves from becoming victims of identity theft, phishing and fraud.”

One of the easiest and most effective precautions against identity theft is to shred documents that contain sensitive data, such as old financial statements, canceled checks, credit card offers, and other outdated documents containing personal information. Attendees may bring up to 3 banker-sized boxes (15”x12”x10”) of documents for shredding. Acceptable items for e-waste recycling include computer components (CPUs, monitors, printers, ink cartridges), small office equipment (copiers and fax machines), personal electronics (cell phones, CD and DVD players, televisions) and more. This marks the 7th year RCU has hosted the event in Santa Rosa, and the 1st year it is being offered in Marin. Document shredding will be provided by Integrity Shred, Cintas, andInfoStor, and e-waste recycling will be provided by Computer Recycling Center (CRC) and Santa Rosa Recycling & Collection in Santa Rosa and Marin Computer Resource Center  at the Marin event. Additionally, attendees are encouraged to bring canned food donations to benefit the Redwood Empire Food Bank (REFB) or San Francisco/Marin Food Bank.
