PG&E CFO Kent Harvey Named Outstanding Corporate Leader of the Year by the National Gay and Lesbian Chamber of Commerce

Kent Harvey, senior vice president and chief financial officer of PG&E Corporation, was named Outstanding Corporate Leader of the Year by the National Gay and Lesbian Chamber of Commerce (NGLCC). The honor was announced during the NGLCC’s Financial Services Diversity Leadership Awards on Feb. 2 at the New York Stock Exchange.

The award recognizes a corporate champion who has demonstrated commitment and forethought in developing unique and creative programs and resources for inclusion of their employees.

Harvey, who joined PG&E in 1982 and assumed his current position in 2009, has led and supported numerous company diversity and inclusion initiatives. In 2010, PG&E became the first California utility to use minority-owned investment banks in a lead role and LGBT enterprises in its supplier diversity program. With his support, PG&E spent a record $2.3 billion with diverse suppliers, or 42.1 percent of its total procurement budget, in 2013.

Harvey is an executive sponsor of the company’s Pride Network Employee Resource Group, which focuses on engaging and supporting LGBT inclusion in PG&E’s workforce and business priorities. Under his leadership, PG&E backed the passage of California Assembly Bill 1678. The measure, which went into effect Jan. 1, 2015, requires public utilities to extend their existing provisions granted to minority-, women- and disabled veteran-owned business enterprises to certified LGBT-owned businesses.

“Kent has been a guiding force in helping PG&E become a national leader in diversity and inclusion, which not only makes PG&E a better place to work, it also improves the quality of gas and electric service we provide to 16 million Californians. We’re very proud to see him receive this honor,” said Tony Earley, chairman, CEO and president, PG&E Corporation.

Additionally for the last 11 years, PG&E has been named as one of the best places to work by the Human Rights Campaign and received a perfect score on its Corporate Equality Index for the company’s consistently strong commitment to diversity and inclusion.

As CFO, Harvey oversees PG&E’s financial activities, including accounting, treasury, tax, risk business and financial planning, and investor relations. He has served the company in many different capacities—including vice president and treasurer; senior vice president, chief financial officer and treasurer of PG&E and senior vice president and chief risk and audit officer for PG&E Corporation. Harvey is a director of the North Bay Leadership Council.
