PG&E Corporation Selected for Dow Jones Sustainability North America Index

PG&E Corporation today announced it has again been selected for the prestigious Dow Jones Sustainability North America Index, which lists North American companies that lead their industries in corporate economic, environmental and social performance. The company was one of only nine U.S. energy utilities to make the North America Index. This marks the seventh consecutive year in which PG&E has been included in the North America Index.

"We are honored that our ongoing work to become a more sustainable company continues to be recognized by this leading benchmark," said Tony Earley, chairman, CEO and president of PG&E Corporation. "Our commitment to sustainability is essential to our everyday operations as we work to deliver safe, reliable, affordable and clean energy to our customers. Being named to this prestigious ranking shows that we are on the right track and motivates us to continue making progress across all aspects of our business."

PG&E earned this distinguished recognition based on sustainability accomplishments achieved in 2013, which include:

  • Investing more than $5 billion to enhance our system and improve safety and reliability.
  • Delivering some of the nation’s cleanest energy with more than half our electricity coming from greenhouse gas-free resources.
  • Achieving our highest-ever supplier diversity results, helping thousands of businesses to grow and hire.
  • Helping customers save more than $155 million on their energy bills through energy efficiency, which also avoided more than 720,000 metric tons of CO2 emissions.
  • Volunteering about 48,000 hours building homes and playgrounds, cleaning beaches and state parks, and mentoring students.
  • Providing career opportunities for veterans and others through our PowerPathway™ workforce development program.
  • Collaborating to address the impacts of California’s drought, including conserving water in our facilities and helping customers save about 1.9 billion gallons through energy efficiency.
  • Devoting more than $23 million to community investments that enrich educational opportunities, preserve our environment and support the vitality of our communities.

The Dow Jones Sustainability Indexes (DJSI) track the performance of leading sustainability-driven companies worldwide. In selecting the top performers in each industry sector, DJSI evaluated companies on issues such as corporate governance, risk management, climate change, supply chain management, customer relations, corporate citizenship and philanthropy, and labor practices, with a special focus on industry-specific risks and opportunities.
