Autodesk Celebrates 'National Robotics Week'
Autodesk hosted "Design Night: Robots!" on Thursday to celebrate National Robotics Week, which this year features more than 125 robotics-based events, demonstrations and workshops in 50 states aimed at inspiring innovators in science, technology, engineering and math.
At the event, robotics companies and individual enthusiasts showed off creations ranging from R2D2 replicas based on the "Star Wars" droid character to a mobile telepresence robot that uses an iPhone for computer power and can recognize whether people are happy or sad from their facial expressions. See the accompanying slideshow.
Bay Area events this week include the April 10 Robot Block Party, an annual robotics festival organized by Silicon Valley Robotics, a new industry association, with the Stanford Robotics Club and the Stanford Center for Internet and Society.
The event runs from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Wednesday April 10 at VAIL, the Volkswagen Automative Innovation Lab, home of DARPA Grand Challenge winning self-driving cars.
